Ever wonder what motivates supporters to give to your organization? The answers might surprise you-as well as the science behind them. Did you know that you can sometimes get donors to give more by making it more challenging for them to give?

This was a 60 minute Nonprofit 911 webinar featuring Daniel Oppenheimer and Chris Olivola.

Daniel Oppenheimer is an associate professor of psychology and public policy at Princeton University and co-editor of the book The Science of Giving: Experimental Approaches to the Study of Charity. He has done research into donor education, the effects of endorsements on giving, and the benefits and drawbacks of asking for pledges as opposed to immediate donations.

Chris Olivola is a Royal Society Newton Fellow at the University of Warwick and co-editor of the book The Science of Giving: Experimental Approaches to the Study of Charity. His research examines the success of challenging fundraisers, reactions to humanitarian crises, and the impact of cause-fundraiser congruency on giving.
